Rationale
For years the show The Biggest Loser has televised for the masses in a communication form with the goal of entertaining. This show consists on many participants coming into a weight loss program that lasts 30 weeks straight. Many people might think this is a great show and a great thing as it promotes weight loss and encourages people to keep a healthy lifestyle. The article 6 Years after The Biggest Loser,Metabolism Is Slower and Weight Is Back Up by the Scientific American magazine states something very different. This article written by Kathryn Doyle states that after the show contestants gained their weight back and also their metabolism is slower. This is provided by the use of logos in the article after a research was done to 14 contestants who appeared on the same season of the show. This article is a informational as it wants to let people know how the show of The Biggest Loser is only for entertainment and doesn't actually want to change people's lives into a good path as they had to complete strict exercise and diet routine in short time periods. This article has lots of fact about how contestants ives have changed after the show and they are mostly bad. It's a great way to show how tv shows can really be sometimes and gives people a reality check. The following letters have the use of different techniques such as Logos in the first letter and pathos in both the first and last letter.

Written Task One
1. Letter written by the former biggest loser contestant Danny Cahill
Dear The Biggest Loser show,
I have questioned myself in a lot of occasions, to what point did the show helped me? This letter is something i've been tempting myself to write for a long time now as i think it's the best way for me to release my frustration. I was a contestant on the show in 2009 and in just 13 weeks i lost 239 lbs which is an astonishing number. I was very content with the result believing that participating in this show was the best thing i could've done but it's not like that. Just 5 years after i dropped all of that weight i gained my weight back like 13 other contestants who were part of a research just like me. It's not like i went up a couple of lbs, i re gained 104 lbs back! I really thought that the whole biggest loser program was something that would change my life forever, something that would make me always seek a better lifestyle but they just made it more difficult. I'm saying this because after the intensive dieting and exercise that you made us do for 13 weeks straight my metabolism and hormones changed in a way that it makes it very difficult for me to stay slim. Now it is very difficult for me to lose my weight. Your show only focuses and cares on entertaining, i never saw or heard of you after i completed the show. You showed no interest whatsoever making me feel indignant. I really don't know what to think about the whole situation! i feel betrayed and very angry at the whole situation. I am truly let down by your show as i never thought things like this happened, as it seems like i'm not the only one with this struggles. My life has changed drastically since your show and not in a good way.
Sincerely, Danny
2. Letter written by me with my personal opinion
Dear The Biggest Loser show,
I have watched your show for about 8 years now and i have never thought so badly about you. I was a true fan of the show, i used to watch it with my mother at nights at least two times a week. I understand now why i liked it so much, its because the show focuses on entertaining the public, the show doesn't actually want to help this contestants but rather use them to create a subject of entertainment. I have read many articles regarding the effect the show has had on contestants and in a specific research of 14 contestants i found out some shocking statements. Because their program is so intense and it is in such a short period of time for some reason the all of the contestants metabolism went slower and this created a huge effect on their lives as now if they gain weight then they aren't able to loose it so easily. Because of this, all of the 14 contestants in the research have regained a lot of their weight. After i saw all of this articles talking about this contestants and how they are struggling to lose weight again is very heartbreaking. I feel a lot of pity for them and i really hope this letter is written by someone in power in the show to change the whole concept of it and not make it a temporary thing in which people lose weight and that's it. Instead make it something greater, a life changing project in which people learn to have a healthier lifestyle and to regain control of their lives. I hope all of the contestants can do something positive out of their situation and that they learned and took at least something positive off your show.
Sincerely, Alejandro
3. Letter written by a woman who loves the show
Dear The Biggest Loser show,
My name is Lucinda Parker and i’ve watch your show ever since it started. Being a overweight person myself i found out that this show is not only a great program for people to participate and lose weight but also for viewers to get motivated and lose weight as well. This is my case, as years passed by, my overweight became each time a more serious problem and at first i only watched the show for entertainment but it them became something else. I soon realized that if those people who were extremely obese managed to lose so much weight i knew i could do it as well. I started little by little doing the exercises that i could and i eventually bought a treadmill. I used the treadmill every time the show was one and that was for around 45 min. In a blink of eyes i was skinny as never! i am so happy with the so fast results. I wanted you to know that the whole show and participants have inspired me to have a healthy lifestyle and to be a better person. This showed me that absolutely anything is possible and i'm extremely happy with my life. I'm sure the show has also changed thousands of others lives into positive and healthy lives. I have nothing else to say but thank you.
Sincerely, Lucinda
